It was 28 years ago yesterday that I made my only appearance in the Commonwealth Games. I'm pictured above  alongside one of my heroes from when I was breaking through, Roger Mills. Roger got ahead of me in the final one or two to beat me by 16 seconds. Although I was generally happy with my performance at the games, I did wonder whether I was overawed in the closing stages as I was unlikely to be able to out sprint the king of the Palace.
