Its now five years since this photo of Colin Watterson was taken after his foot was broken in a farming accident.
Unfortunately, one of the side effects was that his toes lost most of their circulation and it was necessary for him to have further surgery five weeks ago.
I've been off work this afternoon for a family matter but it left me some time at the end of the afternoon to catch up with Colin by telephone. It was the first time I had had a "proper" conversation with him for some years. He won't be at the Veterans Handicap on Thursday but hopes to be out and about before too long.
Colin has held the office of Chairman of the Isle of Man Veteran Athletes Club for an amazing 31 years.
But he was quite a character as an athlete too as these photos show.
