I've spent all afternoon compiling the special feature on the Marathon and I've just had time to look at my Garmin splits before we go out for a meal.
These tell me story pretty accurately:

I wanted to run for 2.55 which means that you run 6.40 per mile but carry a few a few seconds per mile on the fast few miles. It was tough in the heat and I had one or two mitigating circumstances but in the end I was just not fit enough this year. It took as much motivation as anything I have ever done to keep running and I managed to find something to ensure I got inside the important 3.15 time qualification for the next two years.
