Guernsey week drawing to a close

The last email I replied to at work before I finished for a week and a bit on Friday lunchtime was to a bank in Guernsey and it typified the week where every road seemed to load to Guernsey.

Yesterday we flew to Bristol and took a detour on the road to Penzance to visit Chris and Fi Maddocks in Rackenford in Devon. Among the 3500 subjects we tried to discuss in a couple of hours was the Church to Church Walk in Guernsey. I knew that Mark Easton had set a record in 1992 but I didn't know (or had forgotten) that Chris broke that record in his only entry in the race, a record that still stands.

Chris and Fi are featured above with Marie but the photo below was taken on one of the five times Olympic walker's slowest ever walks around his village as Marie and Fi put the world to rights whilst I heard about Chris (and Ed Shillabeer's) visit to Guernsey when he arrived just an hour before the race.

I have received more messages from Guernsey from Rob Elliott and Paul Jackson and there is definitely more to talk about from the Guernsey walk. And I have an email from Ben Scott about his marathon last week so there is more mileage from Guernsey yet.

Back in Cornwall

We decided to come back to Penzance for a week after discovering a great apartment last year. The first day is just like last year - raining. Who cares? You can chill out in any weather if you have a nice place to stay.

Hope its better across the water in Guernsey.

On hols

A couple of hectic days but we are just off to the airport. Will catch up a bit when we were away - like those 87 emails that arrived whilst I was cleaning at the cottage yesterday evening. I'm getting shouted out - better go.

Two and a half years later

Rob Elliott sent me a DVD with some old film on in early 2008. I published two of them but never got around to editing the one from the Guernsey Church walk in 1992. As you will have seen it has been a Guernsey week this week with Ben Scott (and Terry Bates) doing the marathon and a party of walkers heading in that direction at the weekend.

That gave me the motivation to move editing the film (and publishing) to the top of my "to do" list on Tuesday night. But it had to wait overnight as the YouTube servers were down that night. Nice to close that one out and hope you enjoyed the video.

Lucky for some

There were 1300 people at Rushen Abbey on Sunday for the Teddy Bear's picnic. There were about 13 on Monday when we had ours.

Beating the website

I managed to find another place that I had never walked on Monday - along the cost from the airport to the Santon Gorge - beautiful countryside, except for that monstrosity near to the blackboards.

Quarry and runway

It was only on Monday whilst walking past the runway extension and on past the quarry that I realised the irony that we had been digging out the land next the sea for the years only to import rock from Norway to fill bits in a few yards away.
